Matt spends way too much time in the gym pursuing his hobby of powerlifting and watching grown men and women put hundreds of pounds on their backs for no discernable reason.

In the past, he has been shown opening for The Rolling Stones at the Staples Center, performing on the hit TV series Glee, and has performed with Placido Domingo, Delfeayo Marsalis and the San Diego Symphony in concert. Past teachers include James Miller, Bill Booth, and Jim Prindle on trombone, Dr. Travis Cross and Dr. Thomas Lee in conducting, Patrick Sheridan in brass pedagogy, and Gordon Henderson in marching band show design. He is an alumnus of Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps, Alternative Percussion Ensemble, and the UCLA Marching Band.
